Compulsory masks: BVG controls adherence to the regulation

With immediate effect, the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (Berlin public transport companies, BVG) will monitor compliance with the obligation to wear masks at stations and in vehicles in consultation with the Berlin Senate.

As the transport companies announced on Tuesday (07 July 2020), the obligation to wear a mouth-and-nose cover will be included in the BVG's usage policy. Violations will be punished with a penalty of 50 euros. The security service of the BVG will check the compliance with the updated terms of use with immediate effect. Notices of the new regulations will be shown with postings, announcements, floor stickers and informations on the internet.

BVG penalty does not replace administrative fine

The public transport companies also point out that the stipulated contractual penalty of 50 euros is not a substitute for possible administrative fines for violations of the Protection against Infection Act. These fines can be imposed additionally and independently of the BVG by police and regulatory authorities.
