Three corona test sites will be closed

In Berlin, three corona test stations have been closed since Wednesday. Affected are the facilities at the former Vivantes site in Prenzlauer Berg, at the Vivantes Wenckebach Clinic in Tempelhof-Schöneberg, and at the Protestant hospital Queen Elisabeth Herzberge in Lichtenberg.

06.03.2020, Berlin: A guide to the corona virus clarification centre currently under construction at Vivantes Klinikum Prenzlauer Berg.

"In recent weeks, fewer and fewer people have come to the screening centres to be tested, so we had to question the benefits," said Burkhard Ruppert, deputy chairman of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KV) in Berlin on Wednesday. The KV, which previously provided the doctors for the facilities, has therefore ended its cooperation with the hospitals.
Vivantes spokeswoman Mischa Moriceau emphasized that this is a temporary closure. She said that it was planned to reopen the clarification centers as part of the Berlin test strategy shortly. Which groups of people are to be tested here in the future is currently being decided. In the meantime, the outpatient care in Berlin is very well equipped to be able to test itself if necessary, the KV stated.
"Anyone suspected of being infected with the coronavirus has been able to have a smear test taken in most of Berlin's general practitioners' practices for quite some time," Ruppert explained. There are also other examination centres in the city.
As a general rule, it is recommended that people with only mild symptoms stay at home, go into voluntary quarantine and contact their GP if symptoms worsen or the emergency services if breathing is difficult, Moriceau added. He said that a test would primarily be useful for people who work in public areas such as old people's homes, doctors' surgeries, police or fire brigades and secure important infrastructure - as well as within the test strategy for scientific reasons.
