Nightly applause for helpers of the Corona crisis
With applause from the balconies and from open windows, Berliners thanked the helpers in the Corona crisis in several districts on Friday evening (20 March 2020).
Residents of a house stand on their balcony and applaud the people working in the health care sector at 21:00.
Around 9 pm applause broke out in some streets in Prenzlauer Berg and in Kreuzberg. Individual people or whole families gathered on balconies or leaned out of windows and applauded for a few minutes. Occasionally cheers could be heard.
Citizens across Europe thank the helpers
For days, citizens in many places in Europe have been expressing their solidarity with the helpers who, under difficult conditions, are fighting against the further spread of the virus, caring for the sick and maintaining the supply of daily necessities.
Banners at the Vivantes Clinic in Tempelhof
During the day, the Berliners had already sent greetings on banners to the employees in hospitals, thanking them for their commitment in the Corona crisis. At the Vivantes Clinic in Berlin's Tempelhof district, for example, a banner was hung on Friday with the inscription: "Respect and recognition for what you do". Another poster at the entrance of the hospital read: "A heartfelt thank you to the entire hospital staff".
