No New Year's Eve fireworks at the Brandenburg Gate
This year, the popular high-altitude fireworks display above the Brandenburg Gate will again not take place due to the Corona pandemic.
This was communicated by the organiser on Wednesday (29 December 2021). The fireworks display was already cancelled in 2020. The ZDF television show "Welcome 2022" will take place without audience at the Brandenburg Gate and will be shown live on ZDF.
New Year's Eve event as a TV-only show without audience
"We are aware of our exemplary function in the current situation and have therefore decided together with ZDF to implement the Celebrate at the Gate event as a TV-only production" explained Maiko Heinrich, Managing Director of sib Silvester in Berlin Veranstaltungen GmbH on 28 December. However, a small stage fireworks display is to be shown on television as part of the show.

The show will be opened by Tom Beck and the Federal Police Orchestra Berlin with the song "Dickes B". Live broadcasts by celebrities - such as Federal Minister of Health Prof. Dr. Karl Lauterbach - as well as social media campaigns complement the programme.
