Fireworks banned on New Year's Eve: over 50 prohibited zones

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, fireworks and gatherings are prohibited in certain places in Berlin on New Year's Eve.

The decision was taken by the Berlin Senate on Thursday (23 December 2021). According to Berli's governing mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD), 53 areas have been designated where the new regulations will apply. Among them are many well-known celebration and party hotspots in the districts of Mitte, Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg and Neukölln, as well as streets and squares in several other districts. According to Giffey, exceptions will be possible for professional fireworks after official approval.
