State of Berlin to set up 2000 charging points for electric cars
Those who drive an electric car should soon have significantly more charging options in Berlin.
By 2030, a state-owned company is expected to erect 2000 new public charging points, at least 200 of which will be fast charging points, the Senate Transportation Department announced Monday (Dec. 20, 2021). The company Berliner Stadtwerke KommunalPartner is also to take over 1000 existing public charging points, which had been built by the service provider Allego.
In the summer, the Senate decided to turn over all further construction to a state-owned company after the contract expired. However, third-party providers will also be given the opportunity to build further charging points. A total of around 12.2 million euros will be available for construction from 2020 to 2030, just under 10 million of which will go to the Stadtwerke. According to the Federal Network Agency, there currently are 1279 publicly accessible charging points in Berlin, 181 of which are fast charging points.
