The exhibition is to run for five to six months in 2026, the director of the Neue Nationalgalerie, Joachim Jäger, announced in Berlin on Thursday. A similar project with New York's Museum of Modern Art had attracted 1.2 million people in 2004 as "MoMA in Berlin".

150,000 visitors since reopening

In the coming year, the Neue Nationalgalerie is focusing on strong female influences in the newly refurbished building with four projects by international women artists. Since the reopening of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's (1886-1969) iconic 1960s building in August, 150,000 people have come to the museum so far under limited corona conditions, Jäger said. Without the pandemic, he said, about half a million interested people would have been possible.
The US conceptual artist Barbara Kruger will create a new type installation in the hall that will cover the entire floor of the huge exhibition space with references to political disputes on internet forums (29.4. to 28.8.). From the Italian sculptor Monica Bonvicini, a solo exhibition will feature her exploration of feminism and architecture alongside new productions of some of her best-known works from the past decades (28.10. to 2.4.23).

Architecture, Sculpture, Music and Dance in March

In March, the Belgian dance company Rosas will bring architecture, sculpture, music and dance together in a performance in the glass hall of the Neue Nationalgalerie. A project by US musician Solange Knowles, which she is developing with the artist duo Gerard & Kelly, has been announced for September. The performance is planned in the exhibition hall and on the adjacent terrace area.

Exhibition on the occasion of Gerhard Richter's 90th birthday

On the occasion of Gerhard Richter's 90th birthday (9.2.), the Art Library in the New National Gallery is showing his artist's books in a large survey exhibition (10.2. to 29.5.). An exhibition of works by the painter Sascha Wiederhold (1904-1962) is announced as the rediscovery of an artist who has long received little attention (1.7. to 8.1.23).

Free admission every third Thursday in the early evening hours

From January onwards, Klaus Biesenbach, until now Artistic Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, will take over the Neue Nationalgalerie and will also be responsible for the Museum of the 20th Century that is currently being built next door. In addition to the first Sunday of the month, admission to the Neue Nationalgalerie will in future also be free on every third Thursday in the early evening hours.
