Screenplay writer Annette Hess created the stage version of the series together with Peter Plate and Ulf Leo Sommer, who are best known for the music of the band Rosenstolz. For the stage adaptation, the songwriters found a mix of rock'n'roll nostalgia and contemporary music.

Enthusiastic audience

The plot revolves around three sisters and their strict mother, a dance school on Berlin's Kurfürstendamm, emancipation and awakening, but also about the restrictive society of the 1950s. The audience on opening night was enthusiastic, some even danced along to songs like "Monika", "Früher" or "Berlin, Berlin" at the end. The production does without stage bombast and features a condensed plot that retains the humor from the TV version as well as the feminist message.

"It's tremendous fun."

Former Berlin head of government Klaus Wowereit said that hee had seen the TV series and that its musical version was "perfectly executed". He praised the show as exciting politically and artistically: "It's tremendous fun." In addition to Wowereit, guests on opening included Franziska Giffey (SPD), the likely future mayor of Berlin, and actress Maria Furtwängler. The 2G-plus Coronavirus rule applied for the evening, meaning that spectators had to be vaccinated or recovered as well as tested for Covid-19.
