"We've been in the planning stages for about two months. It is indeed a huge stress because we have much less time to prepare. But the only thing that can stop us is the health situation," managing director of Sixdays Berlin, Valts Miltovics, said at a Thursday (Nov. 11, 2021) press conference in Berlin. Organizers are banking on the 2G rule. "This is the only way," Miltovics added. Up to 6,000 spectators are expected per day.

"We are focusing on equality"

The first three days of the race are dedicated to teh "Berlin Future Cup", which focuses on up-and-coming athletes. The elite male and female riders will compete from Friday to Sunday on the last three days of the race. Female athletes will ride exactly the same program as the men. "We are focusing on equality. With this focus, we are once again pioneers," said Miltovics.

Maximilian Levy wants to end his career at the 2021 Sixdays

Talks about the composition of the fields of riders are currently underway. "The response among the athletes is very good," said sporting director Dieter Stein. Star cyclist Maximilian Levy has already accepted. The Berlin native wants to finally end his 15-year career, which includes four world championship titles and three Olympic medals, at the Berlin Sixdays. "The anticipation is great. It's going to be emotional, for sure. But it's also about enjoying it a bit," said the so-called "sprint king" of Berlin. The 34-year-old has won the sprint tournament in Berlin nine times since his debut in 2006.

Roger Kluge and Theo Reinhardt requested

The organizers hope to sign up double world champions Roger Kluge and Theo Reinhardt from Berlin, who won at the Velodrom in 2019, for the elite endurance section. "Both belong to the Berlin Sixdays," Stein emphasized.
