Until November 21, all sports fans can vote for their favorite athletes, teams, coaches or managers at www.champions-berlin.de and enter a raffle to win, among other prizes, tickets to the DFB Cup final in 2022. Ten players per category are up for election. In addition to the votes of Berliners, the results of a jury of experts will also be included in the final result of the Capital City Media Audience Award, which has been presented since 1979. The popular vote and the experts' vote each count 50 percent in the final result. The winners will be honored at a festive Champions Gala at the Hotel Estrel in Berlin-Neukölln on December 4.
Among the female athletes, Lilly Stoephasius is the youngest German Olympic participant at 14. The skateboarder is also the youngest candidate for Athlete of the Year, while 49-year-old speed skating icon Claudia Pechstein is the oldest. Paralympics champion Elena Kravtsov, who married her coach Phillip Semechin and therefore now bears the last name Semechin as well, is also up for election. The 28-year-old survived a brain tumor operation on Wednesday and has already left intensive care.

Among the male athletes, a panel of journalists nominated diver Patrick Hausding (32) and canoeing world champion Conrad Scheibner (25). The capital's professional sports clubs are usually at the top of the voters' list, as are their trainers.
