The train drivers' union (Gewerkschaft der Lockführer, GDL) has announced a new strike in rail transport on Monday (30 August 2021). Passenger transport will be subject to strike action from 02 am on Thursday 02 September 2021. The strikes in freight traffic will start already on Wednesday. In contrast to the last rail strike, the strike is expected to last longer this time: The end of the strike is set for Tuesday next week (07 September) at 02 am.

S-Bahn impacted again

Regional and long-distance transport in Berlin and Brandenburg as well as the S-Bahn will be subject to cancellations. Not involved in the strike are Berlin's public transport companies, which include bus, underground and tram services. However, passengers must be prepared for more crowded buses and trams.

Longest strike so far

This strike will be the longest ever in the collective bargaining dispute, lasting five days. Already in August, the train drivers stopped working twice. The GDL is fighting for better working conditions and higher pay. In addition, a Corona bonus of 600 euros is the goal.
