20,000 people expected for Christopher Street Day
After the cancellation of large parades last year due to corona, Christopher Street Day (CSD) is to take place in Berlin this year.
The Christopher Street Day Parade in Berlin has been approved.
It is planned for 24 July 2021, the organiser announced. The police confirmed the approval. According to the organiser, this year's demonstration under the motto "Save our community - Save your pride" will be a protest march-like demonstration. The organiser said that the demonstration, where 20,000 participants are expected, could only take place under strict adherence to hygiene and distance rules.
No final rally planned
The demonstrators want to march from Leipziger Straße past the Bundesrat and Brandenburg Gate
towards the Siegessäule. The final stop will be at the Urania in Schöneberg, and there will be no final rally. Only last Saturday, several thousand people demonstrated in three protest marches under the umbrella of the "CSD Berlin Pride".

In the capital, a special train on the U2 line is also rolling in colourful rainbow colours. On Thursday, it went on its first journey. In addition, the Berlin public transport company is using rainbow colours at Alexanderplatz station and other stops as a sign for diversity and against homophobia.
Hundreds of thousands of people at the CSD in the past years
The CSD is intended to commemorate the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer people. On 28 June 1969, police officers in New York stormed the "Stonewall Inn" bar on Christopher Street and triggered an uprising of gays, lesbians and transsexuals against arbitrariness. Except for last year, the CSD had attracted hundreds of thousands of people to the streets as a parade in previous years.
