Numerous people seek a spot in Mauerpark in sunny weather.

Barriers in the form of bollards are to be installed at entrances by the end of the year, as the deputy mayor of the Pankow district, Vollrad Kuhn (Greens), told the "Tagesspiegel". This is to prevent "the passage of a vehicle in the context of a possible rampage or terrorist attack". In order to ensure that police, ambulances or businesses can enter the park, some of the bollards are to be retractable.

According to Kuhn, the planned bollard protection in the Mauerpark is based on an assessment by the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) last year. According to the LKA, the park, which is also very well known outside Berlin, is at high risk of attacks such as the truck attack at Breitscheidplatz in 2016. Bollards have now also been installed there. Mauerpark is located on the former border between the districts of Prenzlauer Berg and Gesundbrunnen.
