Summer holidays: Children get free entry to public swimming pools
Berlin's children get free entry to the capital's swimming pools during the summer holidays.
"It's clear now that we're doing it this way," said governing mayor Michael Müller in the RBB "Spezial" TV programme on 11 May 2021. "The interior senator and I, we've come to an agreement once again."
Start of the bathing season at Whitsun
The start of the bathing season is being prepared for the weekend 21/22 May, Müller said. "The systems in the pools have to be ramped up, that's happening now. And we will offer free entry for children for the big holidays," the SPD politician explained. "I think that after what the families and especially the children have gone through in the last few months, it is also a matter of course to express at least a small thank you like this."
Opening of outdoor pools only possible with stable incidence below 100
Müller had already brought up the idea of free entry for children during the summer holidays on Tuesday last week, but said the idea was still under consideration. The start of the bathing season in Berlin depends on the development of the Corona pandemic: It is only possible before Whitsun if the seven-day incidence remains stable below 100 until then.
