40 000 tablets for Berlin's schoolchildren

In Berlin, another 40,000 schoolchildren are to receive a tablet. The state will receive 25.7 million euros from the federal government's immediate equipment program.

According to the educational administration, the new call for proposals is to be divided into several lots, so that three different device providers with the Android, iOS and Windows operating systems will be involved. "We are now using speedy tendering procedures to ensure that schools and teachers receive digital end devices promptly," says Education Senator Sandra Scheeres (SPD). The German government is providing a total of 500 million euros for equipping teachers with laptops. According to the education administration, the state of Berlin will receive around 25 million euros of this sum. The tender is also already being prepared, while details still have to be clarified with the federal and state governments.
