According to the preliminary results of the German Weather Service (DWD), which were presented on August 31, 2020, the warmest months were June to August in Berlin with an average temperature of 20.0 degrees. Brandenburg is in second place with 19.3 degrees. In terms of the number of sunshine hours, Brandenburg with 695 hours is behind Berlin with 710 hours. The average value for Germany was calculated with about 675 hours of sunshine in summer. With 135 liters of rain per square meter, Berlin had the lowest rainfall in Germany. In Brandenburg it was 155 liters per square meter.
With an average temperature of 18.2 degrees Celsius, the summer 2020 in Germany was 1.9 degrees above the average of the internationally valid reference period 1961 to 1990. The warmest day was August 9th with 38.7 degrees in Trier-Petrisberg. The lowest early temperatures were measured on June 1 at the station Oberharz am Brocken-Stiege with 0.5 degrees. About 2000 weather stations provide the DWD with data from all over Germany.
