"In view of the current situation, we will adapt the concept for the International Grüne Woche next year and concentrate on what is on offer for trade visitors," said Grüne Woche boss Lars Jaeger on 20 August 2020. In view of the pandemic, he said, the fair cannot offer its visitors the usual experience character.
The concept and the concrete topics of the 86th edition of the trade fair are currently being developed. According to the organisers, the "ideal partners", the German Farmers' Association (DBV) and the Federal Association of the German Food Industry (BVE), as well as the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, were involved in the coordination process. In addition, Messe Berlin is preparing a hygiene and safety concept adapted to the dynamic situation, which will be coordinated with the relevant health authorities.
At this year's edition in January the International Green Week attracted 400,000 people, including 90,000 trade visitors from 75 countries. Visitors spent a total of 52 million euros on local goods and consumption. The 1810 exhibitors came from 72 countries. Messe Berlin spoke at the time of record participation.
