In addition to a bathing death at Teufelssee reported by the fire department, the police reported three more deaths on Monday. A 30-year-old who died in an accident in Plötzensee on Saturday and a 28-year-old who drowned in the Großer Spektesee on Sunday did not survive despite attempts at resuscitation. Furthermore, according to the police, a man died in an accident in Malchow Lake on Sunday evening. The police have not yet been able to give any further details about him, as the investigation is still ongoing.

Overconfidence often a reason for bathing accidents

According to the German Lifesaving Society (DLRG), overestimation of one's own capabilities is a frequent cause of bathing accidents. From Thursday evening to Sunday evening, the volunteer lifeguards went out on almost 150 missions on Berlin's waters. The DLRG was alerted ten times to drowning cases.
