The Berlin playgrounds are scheduled to reopen on 30 April. This was agreed by the Council of Mayors on Thursday (23 April 2020). Among others, the governing mayor Michael Müller (SPD) and the twelve district mayors belong to the committee.
Education Senator Sandra Scheeres (SPD) had called on the districts on Wednesday to make the playgrounds accessible again. "Especially day-care centres and children's shops without their own outdoor facilities must be able to use the playgrounds again," she told the dpa.
This statement met with criticism in some districts. For example, Spandau's district councillor Frank Bewig (CDU) criticised the fact that the senate did not try to "take unpopular measures on its own initiative in the sense of infection protection and keep the playgrounds closed". Katrin Schultze-Berndt (CDU), a councillor for the Reinickendorf district, also criticised that there were no uniform recommendations from the Senate.
