Jeremy Irons to head Berlinale jury

The jury president of the 70th Berlin International Film Festival has been announced: British theatre and film actor Jeremy Irons will be the jury president.

Jeremy Irons, British actor. Irons will be Jury President of the 70th Berlinale, which takes place in Berlin from 20 February to 1 March 2020.

The artistic director of the Berlinale, Carlo Chatrian, explained: "I value Jeremy Irons as a person as well as an artist and am proud to welcome him as jury president for the 70th edition of the Berlinale". The Berlinale praised Oscar winner Irons as one of the most important character actors in the international film and theatre world.

Irons is looking forward to returning to Berlin

"I am very pleased and honoured to take on the role of Jury President of the Berlinale 2020 - a festival I have admired for a long time and have always enjoyed attending. Being in Berlin for the festival is a special pleasure for me: Not only does it give me the opportunity to return to this great city, but also to watch the selected films and discuss their merits with my fellow jurors," says Jeremy Irons on the occasion of his jury presidency.

Anniversary year: 70 years Berlinale

For the first time, the 70th edition of the film festival will be led by a dual leadership. Carlo Chatrian and Mariette Rissenbeek will lead through the festival days as artistic director and managing director. From 2001 to 2019 Dieter Kosslick headed the International Film Festival.
