Due to many complaints from citizens and tourists, it was decided to take action against the hustle and bustle at the former border checkpoint that had been tolerated so far, the district office Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg announced on Monday, November 4, 2019. "The operator was informed that the toleration has been lifted with immediate effect and that he must expect to be prosecuted for an infringement. First the "Bild" newspaper (Monday) had reported about it.
Passers-by were urged or "downright forced" to pay for a photo with the actors at the checkpoint, the district justified the step. The decision was made in August. Should the fake American soldiers resume their activities, the Ordnungsamt will enforce the ban within the framework of its personnel capacities - if necessary with the support of the police, it was said.
