Unemployment in Berlin declining

Unemployment in Berlin continued to fall last month.

152,615 people were registered as unemployed in June, 816 fewer than in May, as announced by the Regional Directorate of the Federal Employment Agency on Monday, 01 July 2019. The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 7.8 per cent compared to the previous month. Compared to June last year, it fell slightly by 0.1 percentage points.

10.7% fewer long-term unemployed than in the previous year

The number of those who have been registered as unemployed for at least one year fell much more than the total number of unemployed. "The number of long-term unemployed in Berlin and Brandenburg fell by more than 4,500 compared to the previous year," the report said. "This is a decrease of 10.7 percent in Berlin."
