The opening is delayed by ten months. The Humboldt Forum in Berlin will then be able to open its doors in three stages from September 2020. Before that, however, there will be a decisive hurdle for the new palace.
Following the cancellation for this November, the opening of the Humboldt Forum Berlin will be delayed until at least September 2020, General Director Hartmut Dorgerloh announced on 26 June 2019 after a meeting of the Board of Trustees.
Opening to take place in three stages by summer 2021
According to Dorgerloh, however, the first step in September 2020 can only be taken if an operating permit is issued for the 40,000 square metre cultural and exhibition centre in August of next year. Recently, the reconstructed castle had suffered numerous technical breakdowns.
Initially, the ground floor and the first floor are to be opened.
At the turn of the year 2020/21, the second and third upper floors of the so-called «Westspange» with the Ethnological Museum and the Museum of Asian Art will follow. The last partial opening on the upper floors of the Ostspange with five temporary exhibitions is scheduled for mid 2021.
