Number of apartments in Berlin has increased

The number of flats in Berlin has increased last year. At the turn of the year there were 18,000 apartments more than a year earlier, the total number rising by 0.9 percent to around 1.95 million, as the Berlin-Brandenburg Statistics Office announced on Wednesday, 19 June 2019.

However, 31,300 inhabitants moved to the city at the same time. This means that the new apartments will only relieve the tense housing market to a limited extent. On average, 1.9 Berliners shared one apartment in 2018. Most of the new flats - 2,500 in total - were built in the Treptow-Köpenick district. There were also well over 2,000 new flats in Mitte, Pankow and Lichtenberg. Reinickendorf comes in last.
