As a result of construction work, traffic in both directions from 7 a.m. onwards will only run in one lane and towards Kreuzberg at a reduced speed, as the Senate Department for Urban Development reported. For cyclists in the direction of Friedrichshain, a lane under the arcades was created parallel to the sidewalk. In addition, traffic is diverted via Schillingbrücke.

Heavy traffic load on the Oberbaum Bridge

The bridge between the districts of Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg is being renovated. The reason: the heavy traffic in recent years. The road surface and bridge waterproofing have to be renewed over an area of around 2500 square metres. The tram tracks also need to be removed. The construction work is divided into two sections: The western carriageway will be repaired for ten weeks, followed by the eastern carriageway for another ten weeks. Costs will amount to 700,000 euros.
