«One Europe for all»: Protest against nationalism on Sunday

On 19 May 2019, exactly one week before the European elections, numerous initiatives and groups want to protest against nationalism and exclusion with a large demonstration in Berlin.

According to the police, 50,000 participants will be attending on Sunday noon. The demonstration with the title «Ein Europa für Alle» («One Europe for all») will lead from Alexanderplatz to Großer Stern. The protest starts at 12 noon and the route leads from Alexanderplatz via Grunerstraße, Leipziger Straße, Ebertstraße and Straße des 17. Juni to the Victory Column. According to the organizers, further demonstrations are planned in other major German cities and in 42 cities in 12 other countries. On the same day artists and representatives of cultural institutions will march through the capital with their own demonstration procession.

Berlin's art and cultural institutions will be demonstrating, too

3000 participants are registered for the parallel demonstration of artists and cultural institutions. It starts at the Volksbühne and moves to the Victory Column as well. «Art does not emerge within national borders,» says the appeal for Berlin. Freedom of art, the right of asylum and freedom of movement are indivisibly linked. Restrictions or threats to artistic freedom are a «bitter reality» in Europe outside and within the European Union.
