Polar bear cub makes public debut on Saturday

It is high time for a trip to the outdoor area, said zoo director Andreas Knieriem on Tuesday, 12 March 2019: The three and a half month old cub is getting bored in its box.

"She has been running with the ball through the entire box for the last few days," Knieriem added. During the second veterinary examination and vaccination on Tuesday, the polar bear cub already showed herself to be extremely well defended. She could neither be weighed nor measured. "She is not squeamish," reported Knieriem. The little polar bear is already making mock attacks on her mother and biting her teasingly into her fur.

No guarantee of polar bear sighting

Whether the young lady shows just as much courage when leaving the litter box, remains to be seen. There is no guarantee for visitors that the offspring will really venture out through the sliding door on Saturday. The hatch will be opened for the first time on Friday at a press event. The young polar bear still has no name. As the Tierpark Berlin said, the cub will only get a name once a sponsor is determined.
