Berlin Zoo introduces new gorilla

The Zoo hopes that the new gorilla named Sango will father offspring in the future. As the gorilla settles in, the ape house will remain closed.

The new gorilla at Berlin Zoo: Sango

Change of personnel at the Berlin Zoo: After gorilla Ivo left the zoo, Sango has moved in as a new head of the apes on February 5 2019. The 14-year-old gorilla from Belgium and the three females from the zoo are expected to produce offspring. Ivo proved to be sterile in 2015.

Ape house temporarily closed

Sango is a stately and muscular gorilla with a gentle disposition. Before he meets the temperamental Berlin females Djambala, Bibi and Mpenzi, he will get acquainted with the zoo grounds. The ape house at the zoo is temporarily closed during that time. The smaller monkey species can still be visited.
