Olympics 2036 in Berlin?

Thomas Härtel, president of the Landessportbund Berlin, finds the idea of hosting the Summer Olympic Games in 2036 in Berlin "interesting".

"Berlin's candidacy 100 years after the propaganda games would of course be a very sensitive challenge. But why not," said Härtel. If one could convey in an appropriate manner that Germany is "a cosmopolitan and democratic country", "we should have the courage to apply for 2036".
Hamburg's bid to host the 2024 games was rejected in a referendum. Härtel said about the lessons to be learned that the question of financing the sports infrastructure should not be disputed shortly before a vote. Munich's candidacy for the 2022 Winter Games was also rejected via referendum.
