At Berlin's Schönefeld and Tegel airports, some of the check-in counters will be replaced by self-service machines for baggage check-in.

Travellers wait for their flights at Tegel Airport.

A spokesman for the airport said on Friday (2 November 2018) that this would allow more passengers to be handled at the same time than before. In Schoenefeld, the conversion of Terminal B will begin "soon", in Tegel the system should be ready by next summer. Previously, the British airline Easyjet, Berlin Airports' largest customer, had expressed the wish to install the system, in which passengers hand in their luggage at a vending machine themselves.
