Surrealism and Magic: Enchanted Modernity

This exhibitions at Museum Barberini deals with the Surrealists' interest in magic, myth and esotericism.

The exhibition "Surrealism and Magic: Enchanted Modernism" at the Barberini Museum in Potsdam is the first comprehensive show of works on this theme. It ranges from the "metaphysical painting" of Giorgio de Chirico around 1915, through Max Ernst's iconic painting The Bride's Clothing (1940), to the occult imagery of the late works of Leonora Carrington and Remedios Varo.

The exhibition comprises around 90 works by more than 20 artists. The Barberini shows works by Giorgio de Chirico, Salvador Dalí, Paul Delvaux, Max Ernst, Leonor Fini, Kurt Seligmann, Yves Tanguy, Dorothea Tanning and Victor Brauner, among others.
