World Press Photo 2023

The annual World Press Photo Award is the world's largest and internationally recognized competition for press photography.

The jury selects the winners from over 60,000 photos by over 3700 photographers from 127 countries. The winning photos will be shown in an exhibition in over 45 countries. The World Press Photo exhibition in Berlin was compiled from the winning photos in the various categories and will be on display at the Willy-Brandt-Haus in Berlin.

Evgeniy Maloletka's "Mariupol Maternity Hospital Airstrike" Wins Press Photo of the Year 2023

This year's winner of the World Press Photo of the Year is the Ukrainian journalist and photographer Evgeniy Maloletka. His photograph of the siege of Mariupol powerfully captures the human suffering caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine in a single image. Maloletka lived in a hospital basement in Mariupol for weeks while Russian bombs were dropped on the city.
