Monica Bonvicini: I do You

The Italian artist Monica Bonvicini is well-known on the Berlin art scene. «I do You» shows some of her most important works as well as new productions that reflect Bonvicini's interest in feminism and architecture.

Neue Nationalgalerie

Through ironic-critical reinterpretations of major works by well-known architects, designers and visual artists, the artist, who was born in Venice in 1965 and lives in Berlin, uncovers subliminal or overlooked structures of male chauvinism that characterise wide areas of modernism. The special focus is on Mies van der Rohe's museum building itself as an icon of modernism. Bonvicini's minimalist works reveal alternative ways of thinking about modernism and open up a current discourse on the topic of institutional critique.
