The annual World Press Photo Award is the world's largest and internationally recognized competition for press photography. The exhibition is presented at the Willy-Brandt-Haus in Berlin.

Cultural and leisure venues are currently only allowed to open under strict hygiene guidelines. Events are permitted in accordance with hygiene regulations. The 2G rule applies indoors. Further information »

The jury selected from almost 75,000 photos by over 4300 photographers from 130 countries. The winning photos will be shown in an exhibition in over 45 countries. The World Press Photo exhibition was compiled from the winning photos in the various categories and will be on display for the 18th time at the Willy-Brandt-Haus in Berlin.

Mads Nissens «The First Embrace» is the press photo of the year

The picture «The First Embrace» by Danish photographer Mads Nissen was awarded the "World Press Photo of the Year" in 2021. The photo shows Rosa Luzia Lunardi being embraced by nurse Adriana Silva da Costa Souza at the Viva Bem nursing home (São Paulo) during the Corona crisis.
