The Special Olympics for athletes with mental or multiple disabilities will already take place in the German capital in June 2022. The winners will qualify for the 2023 World Games in Berlin.

Under the motto "Unbeatable Together", around 5,000 athletes will compete for the gold medal in Berlin. The Special Olympics National Summer Games take place every four years. In 2022, the stakes are high for all participants: The best athletes can qualify for the Special Olympics World Games 2023, which will also be held in Berlin.

Disciplines and Venues of the Summer Games

The various competitions of the National Games will be held throughout the city. In the Olympic Park, athletes will compete in soccer, roller skating, athletics, rhythmic gymnastics, handball, bocce and horseback riding. Swimming will take place in the swimming and diving hall of the Europasportpark. Right next door, in the Velodrome, the powerlifting competition will be held. Canoeing and open-water swimming competitions will be held at the Grünau Regatta Course. Bowling World will be the venue for the bowling competition - naturally. The BeachMitte will host the beach volleyball players. The cyclists will compete on one of the most famous streets in Berlin: Straße des 17. Juni. The golf tournament is the only one that will not be held in Berlin, but in Bad Saarow.
