The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in the centre of Berlin is the central Holocaust memorial in Germany. It is the place of remembrance and commemoration of the up to six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust. The monument is situated east of the "Großer Tiergarten" park between the Brandenburg Gate and Potsdamer Platz. The memorial consists of two parts, both designed by Peter Eisenman: above ground there is the large "Stelenfeld" area (field of stelae) and below ground there is the so-called "Ort der Information" (place of information), an exhibition area and memorial place documenting the history of the Holocaust. The exhibition in the "Ort der Information" (place of information) documents the persecution and extermination of the European Jews as well as the historical sites of the crimes. The exhibition is visited by nearly half a million guests each year. Both areas of the memorial are almost completely accessible to people with disabilities. Admission is free. The field of stelae is open day and night. Opening timesFor the "Ort der Information" exhibition the following opening hours apply: April to September: Tuesday - Sunday, 10am - 8pm October to March: Tuesday - Sunday, 10am - 7pm Last admission 45 minutes before closing. Between the 24th and the 26th of December, the exhibition is closed. On 31 December, it closes at 4 pm. On all other holidays the exhibition is open, including Easter Monday, Whit Monday and 1 May.
