A gift from the British Allies

The commandant of the British sector initiated construction of the "English Garden" and had numerous plant donations sent from England. Englischer Garten was opened on the 29th of May, 1952.

The Teehaus in Englischer Garten was built to commemorate the former dairy created by Gilly in Schlosspark Bellevue. The small café, where cultural events also take place, is very popular.

In direct neighborhood there is the Schloss Bellevue (Bellevue Palace) and the new office building of the Bundespräsidialamt (Office of the Federal President). Both the decision to make the rebuilt Schloss Bellevue the residence of the German President and the construction of the Bundespräsidialamt in the park made it necessary for the area north of Englischer Garten to be fenced off for security reasons.
