Eurocities: Working group 'Barrier-free City for All'
EUROCITIES is the network of major European cities bringing together the local governments of more than 140 large cities in over 30 European countries.
Berlin is member of EUROCITIES since the 90’s. The 1986 founded Interest Group responds to common issues that impact the day-to-day lives of Europeans. The aim is to shape the opinions of stakeholders in Brussels to ultimately shift legislation in a way that helps city governments address the EU’s strategic challenges at the local level.
On the initiative of Berlin, the working group “Barrier-free City for All” was formed within the context of the Mobility Forum in order to learn more about interesting developments in other European cities and bring together a network of stakeholders to promote developments in the field of the “Barrier-free city”, both conceptionally and practically. Stigmatisation and special solutions were to dispensed with in favour of developing design for all.Themes for the exchange of experience include:
- Barrier-free design of traffic and street space
- Access for all to public transport
- Barrier-free public spaces (buildings and open spaces)
- Barrier-free utilisation of services/communication
- Marketing strategies
The exchange of experience is focused on how the interface between administration and implementation can be successfully organised using modern technology and equipment, as well as developing forward-looking solutions in cooperation with associations and organisations. The development of a common level and standards in Europe combined with an understanding for different problems would be an important and meaningful goal.
Members of the working group:
Barcelona, Chemnitz, Cologne, Copenhagen, Dresden, Frankfurt/Main, Grand Lyon, Hamburg, Helsinki, Karlsruhe, Leipzig, Lille-Metropolregion, Lisbon, Ljubljana, Munich, Oslo, Paris, Prague, Southampton, The Hague, Toulouse, Venice, Vienna, Warsaw more
