Every qualification with a connection
Fit for work or study – educational pathways and cooperation between the upper level centres
All paths and qualifications are open to anyone who attends an integrated secondary school because integrated secondary schools also offer the opportunity to orientate oneself professionally at an early stage or to pursue the Abitur for later studies.
The Upper level centres (OSZ) are important cooperation partners of the integrated secondary schools. In addition to the professionally-oriented training courses, they also offer the opportunity to obtain the Abitur or the university of applied sciences entrance qualification.
In 2013/14, the first class with students from the new integrated secondary schools (ISS) took their final exams and moved on to dual training and vocational training courses at the OSZ and vocational schools.
Berlin standards for cooperation between learning locations
The effective cooperation between vocational schools and training companies is the core of dual training.
Together with their business partners, eight Berlin OSZs are now trying out in the pilot project “Berlin standards for learning location cooperation” how cooperation can be done even better.
The individual pilot projects, goals and structures of the model project are presented in the brochure “Training in Schools and Businesses”. The project is funded by the Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family.
Upper vocational school – a new path to the Abitur
After completion of vocational training or the university of applied sciences, the upper vocational school offers adults an ideal opportunity to acquire a subject-specific or general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur) while taking into account their professional qualifications.
Many upper level centres and vocational schools in Berlin offer this educational programme. School fees are not charged. Funding according to the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) is possible.
Getting ahead in your job - Vocational training at technical and evening class
Technical schools enable vocational training and further education with the aim of empowering specialists to take on management tasks in companies, administrations and other institutions. Technical schools implement the idea of lifelong learning in a particularly efficient way, as they build on the knowledge acquired in earlier stages of education.
Further information on vocational training at technical and evening class can be found here:Dual learning – school meets practical experience
Dual learning is an important aspect of school structure reform. All integrated secondary schools offer practical and job-oriented learning in grades 7 to 10. Cooperation with businesses and providers of vocational training and preparation is increasingly necessary for this purpose.
