Berlin invites you to the Fan Fest, Germany’s longest-running fan party, on the occasion of the 2006 FIFA Football World Cup.

From 7 June to the day of the Final on 9 July, the Strasse des 17. Juni, starting at Brandenburg Gate, will be turned into Germany’s largest football arena.

The Fan Fest will be celebrated on an area covering approx. 77,000 square meters – the size of 12 football pitches – with 234 square meters of video screens set up in four different places, including a 60-square-meter screen located right above the stage at Brandenburg Gate.

The first official World Cup event was the big fan party on 7 June.

Each day at 11:00 a.m., the Fan Fest will start with a brunch where you can discuss last night’s match. Depending on the schedule, matches will start at 3:00 p.m. The up to three matches broadcast per day during the preliminary round illustrate that the Fan Fest is really all about football. And the party is not over after the final whistle of the match at 11:00 p.m.: when the Fan Mile turns into the city’s largest dance floor and top DJs spin records, the fans have time to discuss the details of the match, celebrate victories, or try to get over a defeat. Every day at midnight, a laser show will herald the next day’s World Cup action.

The Fan Fest will also stay open on the six days when no matches are played. A varied program will keep you entertained. A special highlight is a concert with classical music organized by the DFB Cultural Foundation on Sunday, 2 July, featuring the German Symphonic Orchestra with their conductor Ingo Metzmacher. The “One World Day” of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, as well as special events organized by the media partner rs2, will also contribute to an attractive program.

Racing fans, too, will “get their money’s worth.” The television channel RTL, which has acquired the rights to broadcast World Cup matches on two “Super Sundays,” 11 and 25 June, is working with the Fan Fest to bring you both the Formula 1 races and football to the screens at Brandenburg Gate.

Apart from football, there will be plenty to do: football and beach volleyball pitches, a goal shooting wall, and many other things will line the Strasse des 17. Juni. 800 tons of sand will be available at the “World of Football and Sand,” where artists will make sand sculptures and where fans can relax, hang out, or participate in various activities.

“I invite all Berliners and our guests from Germany and all over the world to come to this peaceful fan party held in the heart of Berlin. This is a fantastic offer for all those fans who were not able to obtain a ticket. All of the 64 matches, all of the goals, will be shown live on these open-air screens, accompanied by a colorful and varied program,” said Berlin’s Governing Mayor Klaus Wowereit at the official presentation of the Fan Fest.

Berlin’s local public television station rbb will ensure trouble-free transmission of the action to the Fan Fest video screens. rbb’s Director Dagmar Reim said: “rbb is looking forward to making this very important contribution to the Fan Fest at Brandenburg Gate – the live broadcast of the football matches. rbb will also broadcast coverage of the fan party all over Berlin and Brandenburg. We are sure that this coverage will help to bring the very special World Cup atmosphere not only to Germany but also to other countries by means of international hookups.”
