• Nursery voucher (‘Kitagutschein‘)
  The Nursery voucher (‘Kitagutschein‘) allows you to get a child care contract for the child care of your child in a nursery (‘Kita’) of your choice. The confirmation letter informs about the need of child care and the amount of care (hours). A child care contract is required to start the care. Possible child care modules are

  • Half days, 4-5 hours per day
  • Part time, 5-7 hours per day
  • All day, 7-9 hours per day
  • All day extended, over 9 hours per day

  The voucher is in principle available at the earliest of nine months and at the latest of two months before the desired begin of the child care.

  What do you need to bring with you?

  Application form (if both parents have custody, both parents must sign the application). When applying for more child care than legally granted, you need to hand a proof showing your additional request.

  The voucher allows you to complete a child care contract up to a maximum of 16 weeks after the applied date in which the child care should begin. After this the voucher is no longer valid. Without receiving the acceptance, child care for your child can not be organised.

  The decision of the additional care for the child at a primary school, allows you to complete a child care contract for the child care of your child. The decision contains the assessment of the child care requirements and the extent of the child care. Child care requires a valid child care contract. Without the acknowledgement of your need and without a contract of additional care your child cannot be assigned a place in an after school centre.

  • 1-4 grade: Child care is for the term time and holidays
  • 5-6 grade: Child care is only for the term time
  • 5-6 grade: Child care for the holidays needs to be especially applied for.

  What do you need to bring with you?

  Applying for additional child care. The following documents are needed: proof of need, application form (if the parents have shared custody, both parents need to sign the application). Proof of upcoming attendance of a language course or an integration course. Proof from the employer to confirm the income and job position, or proof of self-employment or free-lance work.Documents to calculate the costs, declaration of the calculated costs you must pay for child care. When you have received the confirmation of your need, you can go to the youth welfare office/the school and sign a care contract. Only after completing a child care contract is the child care for your child in an after school centre possible.

  The right to request support for education and participation (‘Berlin Pass BuT’) have children, youth and young adults, who attend a general or vocational school or child care institution and who do not receive a training allowance. The following services can be applied for:

  • School or nursery trips (1 day or several days)
  • School supplies
  • Expenses for school transport
  • Additional and appropriate learning promotion
  • Costs for the common meals at child care institutions or schools
  • Social and cultural participation (only until 18 years of age)

  What do you need to bring with you?

  To study at a University of Applied Sciences you need a higher education entrance qualification, e.g. A-levels (‘Abitur’) or a vocational baccalaureate diploma. For those who are not having a higher education entrance qualification, you need to be professionally qualified. That means you need to proof that you had 2-year training in your job AND that you have worked at least 3 years in the job, you were trained for. If you have the professional qualification you can study a subject related to your job. The Refugee Office of the ASH University supports and informs all refuges. The topics are: education, language, legal questions, searching for housing, arrangement of housing and if needed connecting to further services.
