Terminus Paradise – 275 years of Bohemians in Berlin
This year’s 48 Stunden Neukölln will be about the 275th anniversary of the migration of those fleeing religious persecution in Bohemia to (Bohemian) Rixdorf. Invited by Friedrich Wilhelm I. these families left for Berlin, moving into their newly built village on 15 June 1737. This historic commemoration is also an opportunity to ask what effect immigration to Neukölln has had since 1737. How does the coexistence of people from diverse religions and cultures work in practice? Have the different generations that keep coming to Neukölln found private happiness, or even “paradise”, here? Why have so many international creatives come to Neukölln in recent years and how is that changing life in the district?
